Location: Amazonas, San Martin, Ucayali regions of Peru
Event: Increased Wildfire Danger in Peru
The Peruvian government has declared a state of emergency in the regions of Amazonas, San Martin, and Ucayali due to a widespread outbreak of wildfires. U.S. citizens should exercise caution in the affected areas, including the city of Pucallpa. The situation in impacted areas may change rapidly due to the unpredictable nature of wildfires. U.S. citizens planning to travel to these areas may wish to postpone their travel to a later time.
U.S. citizens in or near any of the affected areas should follow instructions from local authorities and closely monitor local media and emergency alerts. Avoid any actions that may cause a fire. Expect smoke from wildfires to cause poor air quality in impacted areas, which may affect breathing and visibility. Make contingency plans, as travel to some areas may be disrupted due to airport closures or routes closed due to evacuation.
